We get huge news that we start filming for season 9 of Amazing Race Canada, which means I have to make some big decisions of what happens next with Footloose. Clipper Route, here we come!

Had a '79 51 during 2010-2018. When I bought her. She was Documented in Canada as Eagle III, Following, USA Doc as ( 2011) Eagle. Bought her in Mexico (PV), & put in charter. She was originally out of Boston, Nakesian family ,( later, Pesaturo family #2). I was 4th owner. She had over 100,000 km on Navistar when I bought her from a retired Canadian police fellow, then in Anacortes, later PV. I loved that damn ship. Sailed her often out of San Pedro, was berthed Carrillo Way Marina. She was amazing and turned heads wherever we sailed. Classic. & Safe. Ploughed through 14-18 breaking swells (off Point Conception) in a sunny 35 blow with grace and ease. She now lives in Marina del Rey. I really, really miss her; But not the upkeep. Gary Czarnecki. Director, American Legion YC. Carry on mates.

The mental game of sailing long distances, through the night, bad weather, being cold etc. I never really knew how much it messes with you. Even cruising and doing a night shift is tough. Being left with a mind without distractions is VERY different. We get used to so much noise. Enjoy this trip to its fullest! Embrace the highs and lows. Please share your honest feelings as it take us along with you…not physically lol. KICK ASS TEAM ORCA!!! Phil and Michelle Mavis S/V Arbutus Beach

I guess you don't have a topping lift that you could use instead of the main halyard. You might be able to rig an additional external halyard in time for the race. Good luck on the race.

@@AllAboutSpray I am so happy to hear that. You're welcome. My other idea (that is probably less doable before the race) is to put an oarlock on the transom so you could use one of the oars as a sculling oar. I don't know if you have space with everything else going on back there. It wouldn't be as efficient as rowing but might give you something you could pop on quick and be a different range of motion for tired rowing mussels. It would be good for tight spaces when the oars out the side can be awkward. And if you lose or break an oar you could still scull with one.

One more comment, perhaps two sets of oars and a tiller pilot. That way both can row at half the effort and you can get through the tidal passes more quickly. I know it's to short notice but it's just a thought 🤔
